Vessels
Vessels is a collection of still life photographs of flower vases made from animal skin and parts. I am examining the way the physical body acts in roles of utility but can also be ornamental. I have constructed the vases out of animal skin and parts including pigskin, chicken skin, chicken feet and beef tripe. By using food materials as something meant to be decorative I am thinking about the practical function of these materials. The organic nature of the animal material makes these objects unrealistic as actual vases, but in this photographic setting they can function realistically. The photograph preserves the flowers and the vases, which will both decay because they are severed from their life sources.
